WGDR joins Home Share to host Dylan Wannabe Contest

The Great Green Mountain Bob Dylan Wannabe Contest is back! And this year, the event benefits WGDR Community Radio and a wonderful organization that we’re delighted to partner with, Home Share of Central Vermont (www.homesharecvt.org).

Begun in 2004 by Patrick Mullikin, founder and former owner of Riverwalk Records in Montpelier, the Dylan Wannabe contest returns to Montpelier City Hall Auditorium on Saturday, Nov. 28, from 7-10 pm. It was “standing room only” last time, so advance ticket purchases are recommended. They’re $10, and available at Riverwalk Records and Bear Pond Books in Montpelier, and at L.A.C.E. and Exile on Main Street in Barre.

Mullikin, now a resident of California, will return to Vermont to emcee the event.
Musicians: interested in contending for the “King of the Bobs” award? Signups will be limited to no more than 30 performers. To register, or for more information, go to www.patricktimothymullikin.com and click on “Dylan Wannabe Contest” on the main menu.

Goddard and WGDR begin discussion of going forward

Goddard College and WGDR have begun a series of joint conversations to catch up on how both have evolved over the years and how the two might work even better together in the future. The first community-wide meeting, moderated by Goddard President Mark Schulman, took place on Wed. Oct. 21 at Goddard’s Haybarn Theatre, with contributions from both College and WGDR staff and volunteers.

The next gathering will be Wednesday December 2, 6:30pm in the Well at the station. John Murphy, the General Manager of WHUS in Storrs CT will be the featured guest. WHUS is a hybrid student and community radio station at the University of Connecticut . If you are interested in any way in WGDR and in Goddard College, please plan to join us.

Below are recordings of the first meeting held Oct 21, 2009 at the Haybarn Theater at Goddard.

New Call Letters announced for WGDR's new tower: WGDH

WGDR's Legal ID will change when the new tower goes on the air to:

WGDR PLAINFIELD
WGDH HARDWICK

The Federal Communications Commission has reserved WGDH as the new call letters of WGDR's new tower and transmitter. The new call letters will be activated when the new tower and transmitter are operational. Construction is expected to begin April 2010 at the new antenna site.

The new tower and transmitter facility will significantly expand WGDR's coverage area. Transmitting with an assigned power output of 1100 watts FM at 91.7 Mhz, WGDH will be heard in northern Washington County, and parts of Lamoille, Orleans, and Caledonia Counties.

The new transmitter and antenna will be located on a hilltop near Wolcott village, with Hardwick designated as the town of license. When construction is complete, the new antenna and transmitter will simulcast WGDR's 91.1 Mhz broadcast via a telephone codec link.
